Graphic dominates 19th GJA Awards

The winners of the 19th edition of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards have been announced with staff members of the Graphic Communications Group Limited dominating the list.

Seven journalists from the GCGL stable are included in the list of 32 journalists penciled for various awards at the ceremony  scheduled for Saturday.

Those nominated for the awards this year are: Kofi Yeboah, Mabel Aku Baneseh, Moses Aklobortu, Seth Bokpe and Samuel Tei-Adano, all of the Daily Graphic; Maxwell Adombila Akalaare of Graphic Business and Rebecca Kwei of The Mirror.

The GCGL was followed closely by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which has five nominations: Rachel Quartey, Soyokuor Quarcoo Tchire, Mark Sasu, Isabella Owusu Oppong, and Rebecca Awuah, all of GTV.

From the Multimedia Group Limited, four reporters; Seth Kwame Boateng, Manasseh Awuni Azure; while Beatrice Adu, Gifty Appiah and Edem Srem have been nominated for a joint award.

The other winners are: Dzifa Emma Tetteh and John Vigah, both of Ghanaian Times; Jamila Akweley Oketchiri, Daily Guide; Kwetey Nartey, TV Africa and Nelson Adaniti of Diamond FM, Tamale.

In all, the GJA received 432 entries from all over the country, out of which the 32 winners emerged.

At a short ceremony to announce the names, the President of the GJA, Mr Affail Monney, said this year’s selection of winners was made by an independent jury to ensure fairness and transparency. 

The ceremony was used to receive donations by nine organisations. These are: Kosmos Energy, Plan Ghana, The Miracle Waves Event, Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, City Lights Ghana Limited, Ministry of Local Government, Samara Group, Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Stanbic Bank.
