The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reminded all persons, businesses, land users, and other entities currently engaged in activities which encroach on high voltage transmission line Right-of-Way (RoW) across the country of the September 12, 2026 deadline to vacate.
According to GRIDCo, after the expiration of the deadline, it will work with relevant statutory institutions to enforce the law and remove all unauthorised structures and activities from the transmission line Right-of-Way.
In a statement issued on Sunday to announce the completion of works to replace a damaged tower on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line, GRIDCo said power supply to all areas in the Greater Accra Region affected by the work has since been restored.
The company expressed appreciation to the public for the patience and cooperation during the critical period, which created a 15-hour power outage on two consecutive weekends for the replacement works.
The tower was recently damaged when a tanker crashed into it.
The incident prompted GRIDCo to renew its warning against encroachment on transmission line corridors, stressing that unauthorised activities within the RoW pose risks to public safety and the reliability of the national power transmission system.
The company cited the Transmission Line Protection Regulations, 1967 (L.I. 542), as amended by L.I. 1737 of 2004, which prohibited several activities within transmission line corridors.
These include unauthorised construction, excavation, drilling, commercial operations, lorry parks, shops, garages and other activities that could interfere with the safe operation and maintenance of transmission infrastructure.
GRIDCo also referred to a directive by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, requiring persons, businesses, land users and other entities encroaching on transmission line Rights-of-Way across the country to cease unauthorised activities and vacate the affected corridors within one month.
