Head-on collision kills policeman

A head-on collision involving a motorbike and a bicycle resulted in the death of a policeman at Akyem Wenchi last Friday.

The bicycle rider, Solomon Adzi, is in coma at the Oda Government Hospital.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akyem Oda, the Head of the Visibility Unit at the Oda Divisional Police Headquarters, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Mike Adams, said the deceased, Constable Emmanuel Atinimbey, closed from duty around 2 p.m. last Friday and obtained permission to visit his sick uncle at Akyem Wenchi.

 

He said while returning to Oda from Akyem Wenchi on his unregistered motorbike around 7 p.m, he collided head-on with the cyclist at Wenchi Junction, resulting in his instant death. 

Mr Adams said the pillion rider, Madam Diana Agyeiwaa, sustained severe injuries while the cyclist, Adzi, became unconscious. The two were rushed to the Oda Government Hospital where they were admitted for treatment. 

He said Adzi had been in coma since the accident occurred. 

According to Mr Adams, the body of Constable Atinimbey has been deposited at the Oda Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
