The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Prof Emmanuel Martey has said he could fix Ghana’s current energy crisis in three months if he was the President.

Delivering a sermon at the Grace Presbyterian Church at Akyem Old Tafo in the Eastern region at the weekend, Rev Martey said the seeming religious problems between Christians and Muslims over religious practices in educational institutions was deliberately being fueled by politicians to divert attention from Ghana’s energy crisis.

“Look, I’m the chairman of Christian Council, President should have called Muslims and all that, how do we solve this problem, then you come with threats, you come with threats. We need wise people to lead us,” he said.

As far as the Presby Moderator was concerned there was no fight between Christians and Muslims in the country and that there was no war between Christians and Muslims.

“If there is seemingly war, some people have created it and it is the politicians. The politicians have created this to divert attention from the problems of this country,” he said

“Look the whole of last week on the radio, everywhere, people were not talking about dumsor, they were talking about Christians and Muslims. This is a strategy of the politician to divert attention so that the main problems of the country, we forget it. But let me tell you, we’ll not forget it, we’ll keep on saying fix the dumsor now…”

Listen, Ghana is not a big country for you to take one year to solve this problem. Four months you can solve it; at most six months. Last I was telling my people that if I were in charge within three months I’ll solve the problem.

The plain-talking Chairman of the Christian Council wondered why the government was unable to use most of the loans it had contracted or was in the process of contracting to fix the power crisis.

“…Look at the loans we are borrowing, this is a crisis, why can’t we use the loans to fix it? Then you tell us you will fix it, when?”
