Jealous man assaults ‘rival’

A 37- year- old Mason, Emanuel Ati, has been hauled before an Accra Magistrate court for inflicting cutlass wounds on a man he suspected of having an affair with his girlfriend.

The victim, Peter Addo, 37, is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the 37 Military Hospitals.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Lois Konadu, informed the court that the suspects, Sebastian Kwadwo and Ati, resided at Malejor in the Greater Accra Region.

Sergeant Konadu said Ati, for the past four months, had suspected his girlfriend, Patricia, of having a secret affair with Addo.

He said based on that suspicion, Ati sent Patricia to her brother at Madina. Then on January 18, 2014 at 10p.m., Ati, armed himself with a sharp cutlass, went to an uncompleted house occupied by Addo, his mother and another person.

The prosecutor said Ati went straight to where Addo was sleeping and started slashing him on the head, neck, left shoulder and chest with the cutlass.

Addo woke up from the sharp pains being inflicted on him and started shouting but Ati managed to escape.

After the act, the prosecutor said Ati hid the cutlass in the nearby bush, but he was seen by a witness. The witness, who became suspicious, traced and retrieved the cutlass the next day, January 19, 2014.

According to the prosecutor, on January 20, 2014 at 7:00p.m., Ati returned to the spot where he threw the cutlass.

The witness again spotted him and raised an alarm and Ati was arrested.

Ati has been remanded in police custody

The case has been adjourned to March 14, 2016 and will be heard at the Accra High court.
