The exercise began with a procession from the Accra Girls Senior High School through the streets and ended at the hospital amid drumming and dancing.

Members, made up of some ministers of state, government functionaries, Members of Parliament and supporters of the NDC, scrubbed the offices, removed cobwebs and cleaned the entire surroundings of the hospital, assisted by Zoomlion and the National Fire Service, which provided water for the exercise.

Donation

The group also donated some food items, as well as sanitory tools to the hospital in line with its objective of helping to keep the environment clean.

They were made up of refuse containers, scrubbing brushes, long brooms and mops, detergents, disinfectants and some beverages.

Nii Osah Mills, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources who handed over the items to the management of the hospital, asked that the items be taken good care of and used for their intended purposes.

He advised members of the general public to keep their surroundings clean to avoid contracting diseases such as cholera and pneumococcal meningitis, which had currently hit some regions in the country and claimed many lives.

Madam Catherine Aboagye, Chief Environmental Officer of the hospital, thanked the fun club for the gesture and expressed the hope that members would respond positively to the hospital’s call whenever the need arose.

She advised members of the club and the general public to always wash their hands well with soap and running water before eating and also try as much as possible to keep their surroundings clean.

Objective
Mrs Theresah Awuni, President of the John Mahama Fan Club, said the club was founded in 2012 to win more support for the NDC and also create awareness of the numerous projects the Mahama administration had undertaken.

She said the club had over 2 million members across the country.
