Kabral launches Major Baah Bentum’s book

The Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere, has urged Ghanaians serving in capacities that bind them to oaths of secrecy to write down their thoughts and observations, saying “the opportunity will present itself for the written thoughts and observations to be developed into books for the information and reading pleasure of others.”

Mr Blay-Amihere was speaking to a section of soldiers, academics and the public when he launched a book by a retired officer of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Major Kofi Baah-Bentum.

The book: “‘My Reflections’ A Compilation of Articles Authored by Kofi Baah-Bentum,” is the author’s idea of tickling the minds of Ghanaians on social, economic and civic challenges.

He began making his ideas known in articles published in some national dailies.

The book brings together all the interesting articles published on his views, reflections and musings about challenges that most Ghanaians face and that are easy to resolve.

Mr Blay-Amihere was of the view that documenting thoughts and observations in whatever sphere of endeavour was important as these could provide useful material for books and volumes that would add up to the literary culture of Ghana.

The author, Major Baah-Bentum, expressed his appreciation for the support provided by his family, mentors and colleagues at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

He said for any writer, writing a book was akin to conceiving a baby, and when the writer’s ideas were consolidated into a book, he or she reached the point of birth.

He urged all to treat his “baby” or book with care and read it, rather than buying it and leaving it on shelves.
A review of the book was read by Ms Aniela Allotey.

Lt Col Amissah-Mensah and Mrs Hadiza Nuhu Billa-Quansah auctioned the first five books (in hard cover and autographed by the author) for GH¢1,000 each.

Subsequent autographed copies were auctioned for GH¢500, GH¢300 and GH¢100.

The Vice Chancellor of the UCC, Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, took a copy of the book auctioned at GH¢1000 in support of the author.

The university also acquired copies for its library.
