The Kaneshie District Police Command has since deposited the body of the deceased at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation while investigations continue.

Distress call

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, Superintendent of Police and the Kaneshie District Police Commander, Mr Francis Somian, said the police received a distress call that someone had been stabbed to death at the Kaneshie-Takoradi Station at about 7p.m. last Wednesday, August 10, 2016.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the police, he said, established that both the deceased and the suspect were head porters at the station and were engaged in a scuffle over a load they both wanted to carry when the incident happened.

He said a passenger had arrived at the station with some goods and the two men rushed to carry the goods for a fee as they always did.

While they struggled over the goods, he said Adu told Frederick he was the one authorised to carry the goods and that resulted in an argument which degenerated into a fight but they were later separated.

Broken bottle

Frederick, he said, succeeded in carrying the goods but Adu, who was not satisfied left the scene and returned armed with a broken bottle to attack Frederick.

Mr Somian said Adu stabbed Frederick in the neck with the broken bottle.

He said some good Samaritans took Frederick to a nearby health centre as blood oozed out of his neck.

He said some passengers and other head porters nearly lynched Adu, but for the timely intervention of the police.

Adu, Mr Somain noted, had provisionally been charged with murder and his docket had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
