Man arrested for attacking vehicle on GIMPA - Fiesta Royale road
A man who attacked a vehicle on the GIMPA - Fiesta Royale road in Accra on Friday afternoon, in what police suspect was a robbery attempt has been arrested.
He is said to have attacked the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder with registration number GE-8088-11 on the road.
He reportedly threw a big stone at the vehicle, smashing its glass window on the door.
He reportedly attempted to escape into a nearby bush.
But the driver spontaneously drew the attention of police officers on patrol on that stretch and the man was arrested.
He is in police custody pending due processes.
The police are preparing a charge of attempted robbery and other charges against him.
The incident happened around 2:00pm on Friday [June 11, 2021].
Attacks on that stretch
Some people have reported on attempted robbery attacks on them at that stretch of the road.
They published videos and pictures of their smashed vehicle windows on social media.
But the police reacting said no incident had been reported in any of the nearby police stations and therefore urged the public to report such incidents to the police.
The police promised to intensify their patrol on that stretch.
