Man arrested with AK-47, pump-action shotgun in Kpando

The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Saviour Dzadze, for unlawful possession of firearms, cultivation of suspected narcotics, and threats of death.

According to a statement issued by the police, the suspect was identified by police at the Kpando Circuit Court premises and arrested on Wednesday, September 14, 2026.

The arrest followed a complaint filed on September 8 by Mr Dzodzi Kofi Kpakpamikpe, who reported that the suspect had threatened him to death at gunpoint.

Items recovered

A search conducted at the suspect's residence led to the discovery of one AK-47 assault rifle, one pump-action shotgun, one locally manufactured single-barrel gun, ten AAA Lion cartridges, and a quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Investigations further established that the suspect traded his cultivated suspected Indian hemp for the AK-47 assault rifle with an unidentified man from Togo.

He received the pump-action shotgun from his brother, Foster Dzadze, in Accra, while he inherited the locally manufactured single-barrel gun from his late father, Mathereous Dzadze.

In custody

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and was arraigned before court on Friday, September 16, 2026.

The Volta North Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to fighting crime while efforts are underway to arrest his accomplices to assist with investigations.
