They were accompanied by members of the Volta Region Security Council and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region.

The MDCEs were led by the Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, and the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Mr Julius Debrah.

Condolences

In a consoling message, Ms Ntoso assured the people that the police would do everything necessary to track down the perpetrators of the murder and bring them to book.

She described the late DCE as hardworking and added that his death was a great loss to the nation.

She also urged the people to provide information to enable the police to execute the task.

For his part, Mr Debrah said the truth could not be hidden and challenged those behind the heinous crime to voluntarily come out before they were apprehended.

In an address read on his behalf, the Jojane (paramount chief) of the Challa Traditional Area, Nana Kenewu Addo Chedere II, expressed regret about the death of the DCE and said the incident had heightened tension among the people since that was not the first time a native of Challa had been murdered in cold blood.

He said in each of the instances, the people did not react negatively and expressed the hope that justice would take its course.

Public statements

He cautioned opinion leaders in the area to refrain from making public statements in the media that may undermine investigations into the assassination case.

It will be recalled that the Nkwanta South District Chief Executive was shot dead by unknown assailants at the forecourt  of his residence at Nkwanta last Monday.

So far, nine persons have been arrested to assist the police in investigations.

In a related development, the younger brother of the late DCE, Mr Boye Kenyensu, has died at the St Joseph Hospital at Nkwanta.

According to sources, he collapsed out of shock when he heard that his brother, the DCE, had been shot. He was rushed to the hospital but he died last Saturday.
