MMT apologises to passengers as it resumes operations today

The management of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited has apologised to its passengers across the country for not providing services for them yesterday.

That was because of a sit-down strike by the unionised staff of the company yesterday.

In a statement signed by the Head of Communications at the MMT, Ms Bernice Akologo and issued in Accra yesterday, the management explained that the company had not purchased a vehicle for the managing director even though per his conditions of service, he was to be given an official vehicle.

“He is currently using his personal vehicle for official duties,” it said.

On the issue of hiring an advisor for the company, the statement explained that the advisor was brought in to assist the managing director for six months when the current deputies had not been appointed.

Staff rationalisation

The statement said a staff rationalisation programme was currently ongoing and it was under it that the finance manager had been reassigned as the head of the Corporate Planning Department.

“It is under this same programme that some depot managers are being reassigned,” the statement mentioned.

It said the board and the management of the company had retrieved a vehicle belonging to the MMT from the deputy managing director of the STC.

“Management is poised not to allow such an incident to repeat itself. The inconvenience the sit-down strike may have caused is, therefore, deeply regretted. Our normal operations will resume across the country from Thursday, September 28, 2017,” it added.

The statement pledged the MMT’s commitment to provide safe, reliable and affordable transport services for Ghanaians.
