The Morning Glory Foundation, a faith-based charitable organisation has presented assorted items, worth GHS 24,000 to some needy widows and single mothers drawn from the Greater Accra, Northern and Volta Region of Ghana.
The items presented include rice, clothes, detergents and some sanitary products.
The donation forms part of the foundation’s efforts to cushion the needy, especially widows against the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Presenting the items to the widows and single mothers in Accra on July 18, the founder of Morning Glory Foundation, Rev. Mrs. Davida Matti-Atakpah said, the gesture was born out of inspiration from Proverbs 22:9 which stated that: “the generous will themselves be blessed for they share their food with the poor.”
“Our donation comes from a noble heart. We started with feeding souls with the word of God but we realised that, it was not enough. That is why we decided to put food on the table for the needy, give counselling and also support them to learn vocations in order for them to earn a living,” Rev. Matti-Atakpah explained.
She also noted that the foundation would also extend the kind gesture to widows and single mothers in the various regions in the coming months.
In her concluding remarks, Rev. Matti-Atakpah called on government's collaboration and urged organisations to emulate the steps taken by the foundation to help fight poverty in the country.
The widows and single mothers expressed their gratitude to the foundation for their thoughtfulness and kind gesture.
