MultiChoice Ghana vows to crack down on content piracy, decoders from other countries

MultiChoice Ghana, the nation's leading pay-television platform operating DStv and GOtv, has announced a strict crackdown on content piracy as the European football season kicks off.

The company is determined to take action against those who illegally pirate their content and use decoders from other countries to access it.

In an interview with GraphicOnline last Friday in Accra, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Mr. Alex Okyere, emphasized the company's commitment to combating piracy.

"We are going to be ruthless because it is illegal," Mr. Okyere stated. "You are bringing decoders from somewhere, you are not paying customs duties, you are paying taxes to another government to develop their country, and that is illegal. With the help of the Police, we are going to be ruthless and go after all these pirates and bring them down."

Mr. Okyere made these remarks during the launch of the new football season on DStv, GOtv, and Showmax.

In his speech, he highlighted the importance of football as a global phenomenon that unites people across the world and emphasized the need for fans to support legitimate channels.

"True fans do not purchase pirate devices like decoders from neighboring countries or stream from dubious apps that do not contribute in any way to the development of our loved sport. Piracy and illegal streaming kill legitimate businesses," Mr. Okyere said.

He reaffirmed MultiChoice's commitment to delivering a world-class viewing experience for football fans and announced a special offer for GOtv customers.

"To kick off this commitment, we are offering all customers who upgrade to the GOtv Supa+ package a 20 percent discount on their monthly subscription for the next three months. Instead of paying GH₵300, they will have to pay only Ghs265 to watch all the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and selected Champions League games when it starts in September," he added.

The new football season on DStv and GOtv promises to be even more exhilarating than the last, with an incredible lineup of leagues, tournaments, and matches. Fans can look forward to the fast-paced action of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and selected UEFA Champions League games, as well as the global spectacle of the World Cup Qualifiers and AFCON.

As the new season begins, MultiChoice Ghana remains steadfast in its efforts to protect the creative industry and ensure that premium content is accessible only through legitimate channels. The company plans to intensify its anti-piracy efforts in the coming weeks, with raids and prosecutions of anyone found culpable.

Mr. Okyere concluded by expressing gratitude to MultiChoice's partners, broadcasters, production teams, and loyal subscribers for their continued support.

"As we kick off this new football season, let us come together as a united community of football enthusiasts. Let us celebrate the beautiful game, cheer for our favorite teams, and create unforgettable memories together," he said.
