Museums Ladies Association visits tourists sites

The President of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) Ladies Association,  Madam Naana Ocran, has called on Ghanaians to visit the country’s museums to learn more about the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

She said it was time for Ghanaians to cherish the museums as monuments that held the nation’s heritage and stressed that “Museums are not a place for dead things; they are places that exhibit our heritage and we must not ignore them”.

She said the current perception that many Ghanaians had about museums should change for the better so that more Ghanaians could patronise these facilities.

As part of the International Museums Month observed in May, the association organised a tour to some tourist sites including Fort William at Anomabo and the Elmina and Cape Coast castles for about 30 of its members.

This year’s International Museums Month was celebrated on the theme: “Museums Collections, Make Connections”

Madam Ocran said the museums also had exhibition sections that displayed fashion and artefacts depicting the nation’s rich cultural heritage, and expressed the hope that the model trip would encourage many Ghanaians to patronise the museums.

In separate interviews with the Daily Graphic, the members said they were excited about the trip.
