Contemporary highlife musician Barosky, who was found stranded and reportedly homeless in Manchester in the United Kingdom has been repatriated to Ghana.
The musician, known in private life as Isaac Obeng Mensah, returned to Ghana on Monday night (September 7, 2026) after his plight attracted widespread public concern.
In a statement issued on Tuesday (September 8, 2026), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, explained that the ministry fully sponsored the musician’s return under its consular mandate.
“I can confirm that we have repatriated Barosky and he is safely back with us in Ghana,” Mr Ablakwa said.
“As part of our consular mandate, the Foreign Ministry fully sponsored his repatriation to Ghana last night.”
Mr Ablakwa said support for the musician would continue following his return, with the ministry providing psychosocial support and financial assistance to aid his reintegration.
He also acknowledged members of the public, particularly media personality Nana Romeo, for bringing Barosky’s situation to the attention of the ministry.
Mr Ablakwa also commended Ghana’s High Commission in the United Kingdom for its handling of the case and said the ministry remained committed to assisting Ghanaians abroad.
“We strive to leave no Ghanaian behind,” he said.
Barosky’s ordeal came to public attention on August, 23, 2026, when footage of the musician sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester surfaced online.
In an interview with Nana Romeo, Barosky said he had gone without regular access to food or a place to bathe. He also said he had relied on the kindness of strangers and lost touch with his family in Ghana.
The footage prompted concern among Ghanaians at home and abroad. Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, subsequently travelled to Manchester to meet Barosky and members of the local Ghanaian community.
She said the mission was undertaken after the High Commission received numerous messages about the video.
Barosky, who is best known for his contributions to Kofi Nti’s “Rakia” and Ofori Amponsah’s “Otoolege”, as well as his 2007 album, “Okyerewaa Ba”, later indicated his willingness to return home.
He arrived at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday, September 7, 2026, where he was received by officials and a small group of family members.
His return brings to an end more than two weeks of uncertainty over his welfare in the UK.
