The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has said it was pursuing suspected accomplices in Ghana following the arrest of a Syrian national at Beirut in Lebanon with about 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine shipped through the Accra International Airport.
The suspect was arrested at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after arriving from Accra with the suspected drugs concealed in two pieces of luggage.
A statement issued by NACOC on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Francis Opoku Amoah, said there was an ongoing operation in Ghana to arrest the accomplices.
"This successful apprehension resulted from a coordinated controlled delivery exercise, carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities," the NACOC statement indicated.
According to the statement, the operation was designed to identify and apprehend persons involved at both ends of the drug supply chain. It was also intended to gather intelligence to help dismantle the wider international criminal network behind the shipment.
The Commission said the operation reflected the cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese law enforcement authorities in tackling international drug trafficking through the exchange of intelligence.
It added that the exercise formed part of joint efforts by the two countries to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating across national borders.
