NAIMOS arrests illegal miners after armed obstruction at Subin Akwaaboso

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested some suspected illegal miners at Subin Akwaaboso in the Central Region following an enforcement operation on Sunday afternoon, November 1.

According to a statement issued on November 2, NAIMOS personnel and members of the Special Boat Squadron faced considerable resistance from a group of individuals during the operation.

Some of the individuals were wielding cutlasses, firearms, and other offensive weapons, which created a risk for the personnel and others present.

NAIMOS reiterated that any obstruction of lawful enforcement is a serious concern and that individuals suspected of attacking personnel or obstructing operations will be referred to the relevant authorities for necessary action.

The Secretariat stressed that it will continue to act within the law, exercising restraint and taking necessary and proportionate measures to protect personnel, accompanying journalists, and members of the public during the discharge of its duties.

Community leaders and residents have been urged to support lawful operations and raise any concerns through appropriate channels.
