Nana Agyensaim supports KATH

The Paramount Chief of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, has given temporary relief to the congested obstetrics and gynaecology wards of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with the provision of a $10,000 military camp tent with assorted facilities to ease the pressure on the wards.

The tent, with a 20-camp bed set and 20 mosquito nets, is to serve as a stop-gap measure, while KATH sources for funds to complete the 43-year-old Maternal and Child Health Block to solve the congestion problem.

Currently, expectant mothers scramble for limited space at the facility, with many of them having to consign themselves to the bare floor to be delivered of their babies.

Nana Agyensaim, a known philanthropist who has provided facilities for key health institutions in the country, including the Cape Coast Hospital, said he was touched after he heard a news report and seen video footages showing pregnant women scrambling for space.

He assured the teaching hospital of more support.

The Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of KATH, Prof. Archer Turpin, expressed the hope that the gesture would open ‘doors’ for more prominent members of society and institutions to help complete the structure which was started in the late General Kutu Acheampong’s regime.

The Chief Executive of the hospital, Dr Joseph Akpaloo, said the administration had put in place a broad-based programme to improve the physical structure and work environment of KATH.
