The management of the National Investment Bank (NIB) has handed over to the University for Development Studies (UDS) a four-storey building of flats  on its Tamale campus.

The building contains eight flats of three bedrooms each for the accommodation of staff of the university, majority of whom stay outside the campus as a result of inadequate infrastructure to house them.

Work on two four-storey facilities had also been completed at the Navrongo and Wa campuses of the university in the Upper East and Upper West regions respectively.

The projects were duly funded by the NIB as part of their support to the infrastructural development of the university, which  faces infrastructural challenges for both staff and students at its various campuses.

According to the branch manager of the bank in Tamale, Mr David Fiawotso, his outfit’s initiative follows the long-standing partnership it has fostered with the UDS since its establishment over the years.

He explained that apart from the provision of the staff accommodation, it also funded the construction of the university’s conference centre, where both private and public events were hosted at the Tamale campus.

“As a bank, we recognise the invaluable role education plays in not only imparting knowledge but shaping the minds of students to contribute to the development of their communities and the nation,” Mr Fiawotso further stated.

The manager, however, admonished the authorities of the UDS to ensure the regular maintenance of the structures to ensure its durability and value for money.

On the bank’s operations, Mr Fiawotso said, “we care so much for the welfare and advancement of our customers and we  will continue to roll out innovative products that help in supporting the growth of businesses of our clients all over the country.”

He mentioned the introduction of innovative packages by the bank for contractors, businessmen and women, including the offer of loans to small and medium enterprise operators to expand their respective trades.

The university’s architect, Jawahari Baba Dua, who received the keys to the building, commended the contractor, Abek-wan Limited, for quality work and also completing the project on schedule and to specification within a year.

He expressed appreciation to the bank for their “wonderful support in the infrastructural development of this university since its establishment.”
