When the scheme started operations in 2004, GIS was the first corporate organisation in the country to have registered  with it and has been consistent with the registration.

Presenting an anniversary cake to the GIS in Accra on Friday, Mr Anthony Sowah, General Manager of Nationwide, said a number of activities had been lined up for the celebration but it decided to do the presentation on the exact anniversary date of the GIS’s registration.

Confidence

He said as a result of the confidence the GIS had reposed in the scheme, it had been able to register over 300 corporate clients and about 50,000 individuals across the length and breadth of the country. The general manager, therefore, expressed the scheme’s gratitude to the GIS for being the seed that had germinated and stood by the scheme through difficult times.

“We are grateful to you for being with us through difficult challenges, and by virtue of the confidence you reposed in us, we have grown to be the leading private healthcare provider in the country. We, therefore, say thank you,” he said.

Establishment

Nationwide is a private mutual health insurance scheme created by the society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners (SPMDP) in 2003 to provide comprehensive healthcare, with  vision to be the dominant financier of healthcare services in the private medical sector.

Mr Sowah said there was a network of healthcare service providers in the 10 regions of the country providing a range of healthcare services to its numerous clients.

Five main products

Mr Sowah also said there were five main products under the scheme: Family health insurance, referal to  South Africa, corporate health insurance, international health insurance, and third party administration.

Mr Alfred Ayer, Financial Controller of the GIS, thanked the board, management and staff of the scheme for the rapport they had with the school and for supporting the health needs of the GIS workers.
