NLA presents incubators to Volta Regional Hospital

As part of efforts to reduce child mortality in the Volta Region, the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) has presented four incubators to the Children’s Department of the Volta Regional Hospital.

The incubators, worth GH¢56,000, are intended to increase the hospital’s capacity to handle premature babies.

The presentation followed a proposal from the Asogli State to the authority, soliciting for help for the hospital to provide quality child health care.

The Medical Officer in charge of the Children’s Department, Dr Lord Mensah, stated that the hospital had longed for the equipment for a long time as there were only three incubators at the facility.

He said as a hospital, it was its aim to ensure that all newborns lived, and therefore upon delivery, they needed to help the babies to first breathe and survive.

Increasing child survival

Thanking the authority and the Asogli State for the support, Dr Mensah said the incubators would enhance their work and “more babies will survive in this facility”.

He further appealed to philanthropists, organisations and NGOs to support the department with other equipment, such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators and oxygen source which were needed to enhance the hospital’s operations.

The Volta Regional Manager of the NLA, Mr Reuben Baye, said the presentation was part of the social responsibility of the authority to complement the efforts of the hospital and expressed the hope that the initiative would yield the needed results.

The Chief of Heve, Togbui Anikpi III, who represented the Asogli State, said some of the child deaths in the various hospitals were preventable but the lack of logistics contributed to those deaths.
