OKESS authorities ask parents to return children to school

Authorities at the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi have asked parents who went for their children from the school following the death of a final-year student to bring them back.

According to the authorities, adequate security measures had been provided after the incident.

Presently, armed police and military officers, including plain-clothes security agents, have been placed at the school to provide 24-hour security.

The presence of security operatives followed the invasion of some miscreants believed to be armed robbers who stabbed and killed 19-year-old Godfred Arthur last Wednesday night.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Board Chairman of the school, Mr Ernest Owusu Ansah, said the posture of the parents was as a result of misinformation being peddled around.

He noted that the school had neither been closed down nor students asked to go home.

Mr Owusu Ansah said the school authorities were sending text messages to all parents to return their children to school on or before Monday, stressing that classes would continue and the safety of their children was assured.

He added that there were enough security personnel on the compound and that the authorities would ensure the unfortunate situation did not occur again.

Godfred Arthur was stabbed in the neck and chest at about 10:30 p.m. by one of the robbers who went to the school, which was not walled, to steal mobile phones, money and other belongings of the students.

When word went round about the presence of the robbers on the compound, the students, who were then at evening studies, took to their heels but Godfred was accosted by one of the robbers who demanded his phone.
