Members of the Ologo Family at Somanya have called on the police to do everything in their power to locate and return the remains of the late chief, Nene Narh Dautey Ologo VI, to the Royal Mausoleum.

According to the deputy head of the Ologo Family, Mr Divine Ologo, the circumstances under which the remains of the late chief were removed from the tomb have made them suspicious of the police.

That, he explained, was because the desecration of the tomb occurred shortly after there was an increased police presence.

He therefore called for circumspection and thoroughness in the investigations to win back the confidence of the people.

Mr Ologo said the return of the  late chief’s body would bring about total peace to the traditional area.

Calm restored

During a visit to Somanya yesterday, it was seen that calm had returned to the town with many people going about their normal duties.

It followed a weekend of protests by some residents after news broke last Friday about the desecration and looting of the late Nene Ologo’s tomb.

During a visit by the Daily Graphic to Somanya and Sra, a suburb of Somanya where the palace is located,  the place was found to be calm with people trooping in and out of the palace without any form of threat.

The palace was being guarded by two armed policemen.

Nene Srasraku

The Paramount Chief, Nene Nuer Anobaah Sasraku II, denied allegations that the Nuer Family was the architect of the desecration and looting of the tomb.

"In any case we only entered the palace two weeks ago and before then the police had been guarding the palace for the past two months," he added.

According to him, the demonstrations were part of a grand design to create a state of insecurity before his coronation on April 30, 2015.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Mr Andrews Sodah, said measures had been put in place by the Regional Security Council to forestall any escalation or eruption of conflict.

He appealed to all citizens of the area to remain calm as solutions were being found to the current incident.
