The incident occurred at about 2a.m. at a parking space near the Bolgatanga high court last Saturday.

The  victims  were  among occupants of an articulated truck with registration number 11 HL 4886 en route to Burkina Faso.

Attack

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, one of the drivers’ mate, Francis Osei, who survived the attack, explained that after driving for long hours, his master decided they rest and continue the journey the next day.

He said after resting for a while, two unidentified men wielding shotguns approached them and demanded they give them their belongings or risked their lives.

The robbers subsequently ordered them to lie on the ground but one of them, whose name was given as Baba Taller, refused.

Taller engaged them in a verbal exchange and demanded why they should hand over their belongings to them.

According to Osei, one of the robbers then shot at Taller, killing him instantly. The driver, whose name he gave as Latif, was also shot at after protesting the conduct of the robbers.

He said the robbers then sped off on a motorbike after successfully robbing their victims of their monies and mobile phones.

Victims

The driver, who is said to be in a critical condition, is on admission at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.

The remains of Taller were yet to be conveyed to the hospital as of the time the Daily Graphic got to the scene.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Police Command has began investigations into the incident.
