However, General Corporal Raymond Amegashie, Ibrahim Ayirebo, Bright Dorkanu and Stanley Akorli pleaded not guilty to conspiring to rob and robbery.

The case is still under investigations and has been adjourned to January 4, 2018.

Amegashie, who was on guard duty at the Glotec Ghana Limited was alleged to have abandoned his duty post with his AK47 rifle plus 20 rounds of ammunition to participate in the robbery.

He, together with Ayirebo, also armed with a pistol and Dorkanu proceeded in a taxi driven by Akorli to the supermarket of Helen Asante around the Nungua Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) area.

Presenting the facts to the court, Chief Inspector (C/I) Kwabena Adu said Amegashie, Ayirebo and Dorkanu, upon reaching the venue alighted from the taxi, entered Asante’s supermarket amidst sporadic firing and allegedly robbed her of GH¢45,000 and $1,000.

“The accused persons, after succeeding in their robbery, boarded their taxi and sped off towards Tema”, the prosecutor said.

A complaint filed by the victim led to the interception of the vehicle at Community 18 Abattoir by the police

“Amegashie managed to escape and spent the night at the Tema motorway roundabout Aflao station and returned his rifle the next day,” C/I Adu said.

“In his attempt to escape, he was arrested at the Tsopoli Police barrier and handed over to the police for investigation”, C/I Adu stated.
