Police in Kumasi declare Sadat Mohammed wanted

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured a warrant for the arrest of Sadat Mohammed, also known as Alhaji, in connection with last Sunday's murder of Asantehene's Asamponhene at Ebuom on the Ejura-Nkoranza road.

The police allege that Sadat, 38, invited the late chief, Oheneba Kwadwo Afodour, to meet him at Suame, a suburb of Kumasi, to settle a loan he had secured from the chief after months of failure to repay.

Hours later, his body was found by a group of people returning from church on the outskirts of the village with multiple stab wounds.

At a media briefing in Kumasi last Wednesday, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police, Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr David Agyemang Agyim, said the deceased was in the company of Sadat at his (Sadat’s) residence at Kwadaso last Sunday before the incident occurred.

He said efforts to trace the suspect had so far proved futile.
ACP Agyim warned anyone harbouring him that it was a criminal offence under the country's criminal laws.

Background

Oheneba Afodour was suspected to have been stabbed multiple times, leading to his death.

His body was found at the back seat of his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle. Three persons have so far been arrested but one has been granted bail.

A cell phone belonging to the late chief was retrieved from the vehicle and is being used by the police in their investigations.

The assailants were said to have attempted to set the vehicle ablaze to avoid traces.
According to the police, the vehicle was stopped from running into a ditch by a huge stone.
