PPP needed to address Ghana’s sanitation problems - Ghana Health Service

The Director of the Institutional Care Division of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has said that the current outbreak of cholera in Ghana and Ebola in some parts of Africa is mainly due to unhygienic conditions in the affected areas.

He said it was important for Ghanaians and those in the affected areas to be concerned about basic hygiene issues and live hygienically.

Dr Akoriyea, therefore, called for public-private partnership (PPP) to help address the country’s sanitation challenges.

He expressed these concerns when PZ Cussons Ghana Limited, a manufacturer of household products, re-launched its Camel Antiseptic products.

Endorsed by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the new products include zesty lime fresh, mild orange and original.

The re-launch was intended to expand the company’s market share, promote cleanliness throughout the country, as well as rebrand the Camel brand which has been in existence for decades.

Camel Antiseptic, which was launched in 1992, contains anti-micro bacterial agents like terpineol, pine oil and dichlorometa-xylenol that protect one against the germs that cause skin infections.

The Business Unit Director of PZ Cussons, Mr David Afflu, said the rebranding of the Camel Antiseptic was aimed at reintroducing the products to make them acceptable to consumers.

He also said the new products had blue labels.  The change from the slightly green to blue labels, he added, was aimed at differentiating the products from those of its competitors.

Mr Afflu, therefore, urged the public to use antiseptics in washing, cleaning and bathing since it was the most efficient way of eliminating germs.

In her address, the Brands Manager, Surface Care of PZ Cussons Ghana Limited, Ms Gladys S. Azure, said the company was committed to providing its customers with maximum protection from germs through its products and promoting quality preventive healthcare.
