President Mahama receives honorary PhD from Yonsei University in South Korea

President John Dramani Mahama has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Public Administration by Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.

The accolade recognises President Mahama’s distinguished contributions to national transformation, economic development, and his engagement with the global academic community.

The honorary doctorate was conferred by the university’s leadership, led by President Yoon Dong-sup and the Dean of the Graduate School, Kim Hyun-chul, as part of President Mahama’s five-day working visit to the East Asian nation.

In his remarks, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Korea for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during the visit.

He also thanked the Board of Trustees, President Yoon, and the faculty, staff, and students of Yonsei University for the memorable occasion.

“And I say in Korean, kam-sa-ham-ni-da (Thank you),” the President said.

He added: “This honour you have bestowed on me today is one I accept on behalf of all the people of Ghana, as a symbol of the deep respect, mutual relations, and admiration that exist between our two countries.”

President Mahama prayed that the friendship between Ghana and Korea would continue to grow deeper and stronger.

“May we all commit ourselves to choosing peace over conflict, cooperation over confrontation, and hope over despair,” he said.

He concluded: “May we always lead with truth and strive for excellence. And to all the young people in Korea, especially the students of Yonsei University, I say Hwaiting (You can do it).”
