The Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga South, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, is proposing that the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Gender Ministry should be summoned by Parliament over their inaction in relation to allegations of sexual abuse at the Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region.
According to the MP, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has “a lot of questions to answer” over their handling of reports of alleged abuse at the school.
Ms Ibrahimah, who is also the Vice-Chairperson of Parliament’s Gender, Children and Social Welfare Committee, therefore wants the Speaker of Parliament to refer the matter to Parliament’s Gender and Education committees for investigation.
She was speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Sunday, October 18, 2026, following a documentary highlighting the allegations with some victims narrating how the headmaster of Obuasi SHTS, allegedly abused them.
According to the MP, the referral would enable the Ministries of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Education to work together to strengthen the GES’s presence in districts and municipalities.
She said reports of the alleged abuse had been made “severally to different stakeholders and yet there was no action”, describing the situation as an indictment on the system responsible for protecting students.
Ms Ibrahimah said district and municipal directors who received reports of such incidents had no reason to “sit on it”. She questioned what the GES had done after receiving the complaints.
