The court, presided over by Mr Kwesi Appiatse Abaidoo, however, deferred sentence until June 27, 2016 to enable the police to conduct further investigations to establish whether he was involved in other cable thefts in the area.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Fabian Sallah, were that at about 2:30 p.m on January 26, 2016, the police, on patrol duties at Oda and Akyem Swedru, had information that Sulemanu was on board a passenger bus with electric cables stolen from Akyem Swedru.

The police then intercepted the vehicle, arrested Sulemanu and sent him and the stolen cables to the Akyem Swedru Police Station.

When he was questioned about the source of the cables, he told the police he bought them from someone at Akyem Aduasa.

Sulemanu was granted bail to assist the police in their investigations but he jumped bail and went into hiding.

On June 6, 2016, Sulemanu’s surety hinted the Akyem Swedru police that he was involved in another stealing case at Oda and had been arrested by the Oda police so they went for him.

Further investigations by the police revealed that Sulemanu stole the cables which were being used for an electrification project at Akyem Aduasa.
