Security Alert: Police warn motorists against criminals in parts of Accra

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned motorists, commuters and pedestrians who ply a number of routes in the capital against criminal elements.

The police say the Graphic Road - along the Flyover, Awudome Cemetary, Accra Mall Roundabout, La Beach on the Teshie-Nungua Road and others including the George Walker Bush Road (N1) as well as the Pokuase – Amasaman road have become hubs for criminal elements and wants members of the public to be alert while in these areas. 

According to a statement signed by the Regional Director of Public Affairs, ASP Efia Tenge, there had been periodic theft cases where commuters lose valuables including mobile phones, hand bags, tablets and laptops to these criminals. 

The police have therefore advised motorists to roll up their car windows and also avoid displaying handy and flashy valuables while in traffic.

The statement further advised drives to:

  • Conveniently roll up car windows when in traffic to prevent these criminal from having access to personal valuables
  • Desist from displaying handy items and electronic devices in vehicles.
  • Be extra careful when approach by hawkers to sell items whiles in traffic.
  • Be wary of strange, especially ladies who approach you for free ride
  • Ensure that vehicle doors are locked up in the course of the journey

As part of security measures to deal with the situation, the police said there were going to be rush-hour visibility patrols, motor bike patrols.

The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the general public of ridding the city of such troublemakers and asked the general public to support them and to be extra vigilant to avoid falling victims to criminals.
