Site for Ashanti Regional Hospital handed over to contractor

The Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, yesterday handed over the site for the construction of a 250–bed Ashanti Regional Hospital to the contractor, Euroget.

The project,  which is being financed by the government at a cost of $63 million,  will be completed within 20 months. It will be sited on a 30-acre land at Sewua in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region.

The 250-bed health facility is one of the nine health facilities being built by Euroget across the country. They include the Wa Regional Hospital, Tepa, Twifo Praso, Madina, Kumawu, Salaga, Nsawkaw district hospitals and the 500-bed military hospital at Afari in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region.

Handing over of site
At a ceremony to hand the site over to the contractor, Dr Agyemang-Mensah said the project held lots of prospects for the region and the Sewua community and entreated the contractor to sublet some of the jobs to the local people to enable them to generate income.
He stressed that the provision of health care for the people was a priority of  the government.

The Chairman of the Euroget Group of Companies, Dr Said Deraz, said although the project was to be executed within 20 months, he was hopeful that it would be completed ahead of schedule.

He also said Euroget was committed to the terms of the contract, which included the financing and completion of the project on time.

Tepa District Hospital
Dr Agyemang-Mensah had earlier visited the Tepa District Hospital where he inspected work on the 60-bed district hospital for the Ahafo Ano North District.

Briefing the minister, the Project Manager, Mr Atakorah Amanianpong, said civil works, which constituted 50 per cent of the $36 million project were about halfway completed. He indicated that the other 50 per cent involved the training of health personnel, installation of medical equipment and inauguration of the project. So far, the work was proceeding according to the schedule.

Appeal
The Omanhene of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, appealed to the minister to help equip the dispensary of the Tepa Senior High School for it to serve as a first aid point for the students.

He also said if the school was provided with a dispensary or sickbay and a nurse, students could be given first aid when they fell ill.
