SOFTtribe's Herman Chinery-Hesse passes on

Renowned Ghanaian technology entrepreneur and the founder of the SOFTtribe, Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse has passed on.

He died on Monday evening [Sept 16, 2024], after a reported cardiac issue.

Born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, Herman Chinery-Hesse has numerous contributions in the technology area in Ghana

He founded the SOFTtribe in 1991, which has grown to become one of the best-known software houses in West Africa.

Under his leadership, the company has pioneered several groundbreaking products, including mobile-based community security systems, government payroll systems, ERP solutions, and nationwide utility billing systems.

He started writing software in a bedroom in his parents' home, at a time when not many people were aware of the potential impact of the computer revolution in Africa.

His company eventually started developing business management software and now has a client base of more than 250 organisations, including several major multinationals such as the Ford Foundation, Nestle, and Unilever.

SOFTtribe Limited is also a Microsoft development partner in the region.
