Suspect in policewoman murder in court for another murder case
The prime suspect in the murder of a policewoman in Tamale, Corporal Agatha Nana Bayin, has been arraigned before the Tamale Magistrate Court in a fresh case involving the attempted murder of one Tominu Yussif.
The suspect, Issahaku Yakubu Kanbo-Naa, a tailor who doubles as a chief warrior of Salamba was identified by the victim at the Northern Regional Police Headquarters.
According to the Northern Regional Crime Officer, Supt Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, on May 8, 2018, at about 9pm, the victim went to a drinking spot popularly called James Town drinking spot located at "Assemblyman park” at water works, in Tamale to have some drinks.
He said while there, the suspect whose palace is adjoining to the drinking spot emerged from nowhere and started firing an AK 47 rifle into the air indiscriminately .
He said the suspect later sat with the victim and asked him for a sum of GH₵2,000 but the victim turned down his request.
He said it was then that Yakubu shot the victim in the left thigh.
A witness in the case called the victim's wife who also went to the scene and rushed the victim to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) for treatment.
A complaint was later lodged with the police where police medical form was issued to the complianant on behalf of the victim.
The victim was admitted at the TTH and when operated upon , a bullet believed to be AK 47 assault rife was retrieved .
The suspect who is also an accused person involved in the murder case and remanded into prison custody , was subsequently identified to the police by the victim as his assailant who shot him at the drinking spot.
Yakubu was consecutively arrested and charged with attempted murder and the use of offensive weapon.
