Thirty-year-old Bismark Owusu used to be an errand boy for the robbery victim, one Antwi Boasiako, a worker of Newmont Gold Mining Company.

The robbers were fleeing the robbery scene and shot Boateng, who was coming to visit Boasiako, outside the house because, according to the police, he was able to identify the suspects.

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Mohammed Yussif Tanko, told the Daily Graphic that the incident happened on Saturday, January 2, 2016.

Booty
He said the armed robbers, numbering five, broke into Boasiako’s house at about 7:30 p.m. and robbed him, during a blackout.

They were hooded and armed with two AK47 rifles and made away with two laptops, GH¢1,000, six mobile phones and other valuable items.

According to the police, Boateng, also known as Agya Boat, was shot in front of Boasiako’s house when the robbers were leaving the crime scene.

Shooting
The robbers had taken off their hoods and Boateng, who did not know they had robbed Boasiako, had called some of them. Out of the fear of being reported to the police, the robbers shot him and fled the scene.

According to the police, Owusu was picked up because he knew the house and movements of Boasiako.

Hospital
According to ASP Tanko, a taxi driver who chanced on the scene, conveyed Boateng to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he died on arrival.

He said that Boateng told the taxi driver that he suspected that they shot him because he was able to make them out.

He, however, could not tell the driver the identities of the suspects before passing out.
