A Forty-three-year-old trader, Veronica Akosa, was freed of a spiritual burden when she got baptised into the Seventh-Day Adventist faith.

Veronica who is possessed by dwarf spirits,  hails from Offinso Asamankama in the Offinso South Municipality in the Ashanti Region but lives in Kumasi with her five children after a divorce some years back.

Narrating her ordeal to The Mirror, Veronica said at age two, she became possessed by dwarf spirits while playing with her peers and was taken to a nearby shrine where the spirits were calmed and she got relief.

According to her, she was told at the shrine that she was destined to be a traditional priestess so there was no way she could escape that ‘gift’ as a profession – a family-oriented gift.

Veronica said she resisted the so-called gift to become a priestess and asked her parents to perform the necessary rituals for those spirits to leave her.

She recalled that since that incident at age two, nothing of that sort had happened to her again so she thought that was the end.

She said a few days ago, she was selling at the Kronum market when the dwarf spirit possessed her again.

She said some of her friends at the market who knew the characteristics sent her home and she was later sent to a shrine at Adugyama near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District.

“The priestess at the shrine performed some rituals which helped to dispel the spirits but I was told that I was born a priestess, therefore, the earlier I set up a shrine the better.”

 Wednesday prayers at Bantama SDA

Veronica said thereafter, she decided to seek the face of God at any church that could help her ward off the pre-ordained traditional priestess ministry.

She said she once met Elder Stephen Ampadu of the Bantama SDA Church while selling at the Kronum market and in a conversation, sought his help in prayers.

As a result, Elder Ampadu invited her to a Wednesday Prayer Service at Bantama SDA where she told the members of her problem and they prayed for her.

She said she followed up the following week and realised she was getting relief but the Pastor, Alexander Marfoh, asked her to prepare for baptism.
