Two arrested over murder of 11-year-old girl at Gomoa Buduburam

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of an 11-year-old girl, Blessing Innocent, at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.

According to a Police press release, the suspects are Kingsley Ozor, 40, an autobody sprayer, and his apprentice, Jeffery Otaigbe, 19.

The arrest followed a report of a missing person received on Monday, October 19, by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Gomoa Buduburam District Police at about 12:40 pm. The complainant, the victim's mother, stated that her daughter had gone missing since Saturday, October 17.

Preliminary investigation established that on October 17, at about 8:30 am, the deceased visited the suspects, who are both neighbours, and that was the last place she was seen.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects on October 20. During interrogation, both suspects admitted that the deceased was with them on the said date.

Further probe revealed that suspect Jeffery Otaigbe lured the deceased into an unfinished building near an estate community and sexually abused her until he realised she had become lifeless.

Following the confession, the suspect led the Police to the location where the lifeless body was hidden underneath some shrubs.

The Police have since recovered the body and conveyed it to the St Gregory Catholic Hospital morgue, while arrangements are underway for an autopsy to be conducted at the Police Hospital.

Both suspects are currently in Police custody as further investigations continue.

The Central East Regional Police Command commended the Gomoa Buduburam District Police for their diligence and assured the public that crimes of such kind will be dealt with swiftly to ensure perpetrators face the full rigours of the law.
