The organisations are Voltic Ghana Limited (VGL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Voltic Ghana  presented a cheque for GH¢5,000  and 70 cartons of Voltic natural mineral water, while UNDP also presented a cheque for GH¢5,000

At a presentation ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, the President of GJA,  Mr Affail Monney, described the two organisations as traditional sponsors who had over the years supported the association in the organisation of the awards.

He stated that the organisations’ support had been instrumental in organising training programmes for journalists and that had helped to bring about qualitative improvement in journalism.

Asantehene as Guest of Honour

The awards ceremony, which would be held on the theme, “Using development journalism to discern and defend the national interest,” will have Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, as the Special Guest of Honour.

Mr Monney said this year’s event was aimed at encouraging and motivating journalists to champion the cause of national development.

The sponsors

The Corporate Affairs Manager of Voltic Ghana, Mr Cyrus deGraft-Johnson, said the sponsorship formed part of the company’s efforts to assist the association to encourage journalists to work harder.

He added that the company was committed to ensuring that journalists who excelled in their work were duly recognised to encourage them to do more.

The Communications Analyst of UNDP, Mr Bossman Owusu, said more was needed to be done to motivate reporters to place development at the centre of their reporting.

He, therefore, stated that UNDP would continue to support the association’s awards ceremony and training programmes to improve the capacity of journalists.
