Alhaji Abubakari Ibrahim and Inusah A. Abudu, Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of the cargo branch of the union, allegedly diverted street solar lights donated by a benefactor for private and personal use.

A letter signed by Alhaji Nuhu Mahama, a senior industrial officer with the Upper West branch of the GPRTU, said the two were "suspended from acting as chairman and vice chairman respectively" pending the final recommendations by a three-member committee tasked with the investigation of the matter.

The security lights were intended to improve the security situation at the lorry parks.

"By a copy of this letter, you are required to hand over the management of the branch to the interim management committee with immediate effect," the letter said.
