Veteran journalist, Kweku Baako Jnr, opened up about his decision to marry later in life during a candid conversation on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana. The discussion occurred on January 9, 2024, marking Mr Randy Abbey’s final episode as the show’s host.

Mr Abbey, in his usual engaging style, posed a light-hearted but probing question to Mr Baako, comparing him to his close friend and fellow journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr, who married much earlier in life.

“I will still ask the question I want to ask you. How come, despite the fact that you guys were like twins and everything, Kwesi married early, and you married late?” Mr Abbey queried.

Although Mr Pratt initially tried to deflect, saying, “Is it a question to ask?”, Mr Abbey persisted, and Mr Baako eventually shared an honest response.

“Lack of self-discipline. I was virtually a rolling stone. Yeah, I was a rolling stone. And that affected my opportunities to access decent women,” Baako admitted.

Despite his youthful lifestyle, Mr Baako expressed gratitude for eventually finding a life partner who complemented him perfectly. “Thankfully, I got a woman just the right fit-for-purpose,” he added.

The exchange was peppered with humour, as Mr Abbey remarked, “That’s why you are still paying school fees, while Kwesi has grandchildren.”

Mr Baako responded with a laugh, saying, “Korle Gono has taken all my children,” sparking further laughter when Mr Abbey joked, “That’s why you don’t drive past there. Because you hear, ‘Daddy, Daddy.’”

The light-hearted conversation, filled with nostalgia and laughter, provided a fitting end to Mr Abbey’s 23-year tenure as host of Good Morning Ghana. It reflected both the camaraderie and the reflective tone of the broadcaster’s farewell episode.
