Woraso community gets police post, market

Woraso, a suburb of Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, now has a police post. The post was put up by the Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly to help maintain peace in the area.

The police post will also be of service to the neighbouring towns of Bodomase, Abotanso, Aninangye and Kumawu-Ahinsan, which have high incidents of robbery attacks.

In addition to the police post, a new market was inaugurated at Woraso. The market has 11 lockable stores, 24 stalls and an open area for sheds.

Deputy minister

At a ceremony to inaugurate the police post last Wednesday, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Agyemang, commended the district chief executive (DCE) for his commitment to duty and his drive to see the area develop.

She urged the chiefs, elders and opinion leaders in the area to cooperate with the police and ensure that justice was uniformly served.  

Mrs Agyemang also urged the people to join forces with the police in the fight against crime, particularly armed robbery, in the area.

DCE

The DCE for Sekyere-Kumawu, Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum, assured the people that the government would continue to create an enabling environment for them to succeed in their fields of endeavour.

He said so far, the first batch of 100 young people who did not benefit from the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme instituted by the government had been enrolled and were to be awarded a grant of GH¢20,000 from the Skills Development Fund (SDF), a fund set up by the government to resource young people desirous to learn a vocation but are financially handicapped.

He said a firefighting brigade had been established to help fight incidents of fire outbreaks during the harmattan.

Police

The Effiduase Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Phillip Asante, commended the assembly for the police post and gave an assurance that his men were ready to maintain law and order in the area.

ACP Asante appealed to philanthropists to assist the service with accommodation for police officers who would be posted to man the police post.

Chief

The Chief of Woraso, Akyemfour Adu Acheampong III, lauded the assembly for establishing a police post and a market in the community.  

He called on the assembly, however, to help address the problem of choked drains at Woraso and to also provide adequate lighting in the town, particularly along the street leading to the only health facility in the community.
