Announcing this, the company’s Managing Director, Mr Agyenim Boateng Adjei explained that the large refuse containers would be placed at special places such as the Tema Station in the Central Business District as  refuse containers to be unloaded every week.

He said this during an inspection tour of some areas under the one-month special evacuation exercise in Accra.

Mr Adjei said “as stakeholders in this sanitation business, we have decided to bring in hoppers and locate them in different areas for people to dump their refuse in and they would compress it.”

“We believe that with these compactors, the tendency of indiscriminate dumping would be reduced and that would also complement the continuous education, he said.

He added that Zoom Alliance would import and distribute 50,000 refuse bins to various households within the metropolis and also place some at short distances to prevent people from littering indiscriminately.

Mr Adjei urged the public to change their attitude towards sanitation and support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal on sanitation.

The Senior Operations and Technical Manager at Zoom Alliance, Mr Kenneth Asare, said the evacuated and refilled sites would be handed over to the assemblies for redevelopment.

He reiterated the need for instant punishment for sanitation offences to ensure that people stopped indiscriminate dumping.
