The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has intensified its public awareness campaign against the Ebola virus, urging citizens to stay vigilant and strictly adhere to preventive measures.
In a public notice, the Service emphasised that the Ebola virus spreads through direct contact with the blood and other body fluids of an infected person. It warned the public not to touch the body fluids of someone with suspected Ebola, adding that trained care workers must use appropriate protective equipment.
The GHS advised that if anyone has direct contact with someone suspected of having Ebola or their body fluids, they should seek medical attention immediately and not wait for symptoms to develop.
"Let us remain informed, follow recommended preventive measures and encourage others to do the same. Stay alert, stay informed, stay safe," the Service stated.
The alert forms part of ongoing efforts to keep the public informed and prevent the importation of the disease, following recent outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and Nigeria.
