Why Apraku's presidential nomination forms were initially rejected by NPP Elections Committee

The presidential nomination forms of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku was Monday morning rejected by the party's Elections Committee because it was "incomplete."

Dr Konadu Apraku had tried to file the nomination forms earlier but the Elections Committee rejected it and asked him to go and complete and re-submit.

The former Member of Parliament for Offinso North in the Ashanti Region and former Trade and Industry Minister was the first person to have arrived at the party headquarters ahead of another competitor, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, on Monday morning.

However, after meeting the party’s Elections Committee, Dr Apraku was asked to go and make sure that his forms were complete.

The deadline for filing is Saturday, June 24, 2023.

The cost of picking the nomination forms is GH¢50,000 while that of the filing is a non refundable amount of GH¢300,000.

Apraku files presidential nomination forms Monday afternoon

Explaining, the Director of Elections of the NPP, Evans Nimako explained that "in the case of Dr Apraku, when the forms were scanned, we realised that some documents were not attached and he was asked to make sure that it is full before it will be admitted."

'That is how come he took leave of the committee and returned later with complete documents, which was received and certificate of receipt was issued for the payment of the filing fees and everything was done accordingly.

5 aspirants file nomination forms

As of Monday, a total of five aspirants had filed their nomination forms - Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Boakye Agyarko, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku.
