Gomoa East Assembly inaugurates unit committees

Area Councils and Unit Committees of the Gomoa East District Assembly were inaugurated at a ceremony at Afransi over the weekend, with a call on members to discharge their duties effectively to accelerate the total development of the district.

The Chief Executive, Mr Jonamoah Moses Jehu-Appiah, who made the call in a speech read on his behalf, said it was paramount and mandatory for them to work hard to ensure confidence and trust of the people.

He stated that they had been elected to assist the assembly to effectively implement its policies and programmes to improve the living conditions of the people in the area.

Decentralisation

According to Mr Jehu-Appiah, the unit committees and area councils were part of the decentralisation and local governance system which provided the framework for the promotion of participatory democracy and citizen’s engagement for improved delivery.

“Your contributions are indispensable towards the socio-economic development of the district and the nation as a whole,” he said, and entreated them to work assiduously to rekindle the communal spirit in the communities.

He indicated that a lot depended on them to reverse the current sanitation challenges in the district to prevent the spread of diseases that continued to claim lives.
