The Ho Municipal Assembly has now confirmed the president’s nominee, Mrs Fafa Akua Adinyira, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

However, the celebration of the victory was pre-consumed and soaked in a long and hectic debate on the agenda and programme of the  assembly, revocation of the tenure of government appointees to the assembly,  appointment and confirmation of new ones on the discretionary powers of the executive and interpretation of standing orders of the assembly, as well as the Local Government Act governing the assembly.

Although it was expected that the unannounced revocation of government appointees could lead to a straight victory, it didn’t work, as the nominee was first rejected and later confirmed by a slim margin in a second voting.

Mrs Adinyira polled 26 votes, against 15 in the first round of voting and could not achieve two-thirds majority as laid down by law, but managed to poll 27 votes,  against 14 to sail through.

During the first confirmation exercise on September 10, Mrs Adinyira, a former human resource manager of the AEL Ghana Limited, a mining company, was rejected when she polled 28, with 14 against.
