NDC stalwarts endorse AMA boss

Four Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) and three Ministers, all stalwarts of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), last Sunday came out to support the current Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, as he prepares to beat two others in the Ablekuma South parliamentary primaries to run f0r the seat on the ticket of the party.

The occasion was the launch of the AMA Chief Executive’s campaign to win the seat over the two other contenders, Mr Leslie Anim, a lawyer, and Mr Wisdom Nii Amoo Dodoo, a businessman, when the NDC conducts its primaries on November 7, 2015.

The three ministers who came out to support the AMA boss were the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Afotey Agbo; the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; who asked the constituents to see Mr Vanderpuije as the preferred candidate of the NDC fo

Launching the campaign in a charged atmosphere, a former National Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Madam Faustina Nelson, who spoke in both Twi and English, said: “I see that you are blessed because you are going to have an illustrious, humble and honest man to represent you in parliament. I know that if you vote the mayor into parliament, whatever you need here would be provided for you. To retain the Ablekuma South seat you will need a viable candidate like Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.”

The Mamprobi 1 Junior High School Park, where the launch took place was agog with singing, music blaring out of loudspeakers, a brass band and groups of enthusiastic youth shouting intermittently.

Mr Vanderpuije, speaking in Ga, said: “Today I am responding to the call from the youth, chiefs, workers and all other constituents to have me run for MP for Ablekuma South.” He thanked some party members in the constituency for their role in pushing for him to run for the MP slot.
