NPP clears Paul Afoko

The National Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has finally cleared Mr Paul Afoko, one of the key contestants for the NPP national chairmanship position, of any allegations levelled against him.

The committee had informed Mr Afoko that they had finally received a report from Interpol in Britain that he had not been in prison and that the drug allegation against him was unfounded.

In position to continue campaign 

With such clearance, Mr Afoko is now in a solid position to continue with his vigorous campaign for the chairmanship position of the party.

It would be recalled that an anonymous person petitioned the party’s vetting committee demanding that Mr Afoko be disqualified because he was alleged to have been involved in a criminal act in the United Kingdom.

The vetting committee found the petition against his candidature frivolous and without merit.

The committee’s ruling came after a lengthy indoor meeting between the committee and Paul Afoko yesterday at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

The meeting was preceded by the National Elections Committee meeting with the various candidates contesting for the national executive positions of the party.

“I am innocent”

After being cleared of any wrongdoing, Mr Afoko emerged from the meeting and expressed his profound appreciation to those who “stood by me and believed in me”.

“I told Ghanaians from the beginning that I was clean and that I have never been involved in any criminal act.

“Now that it is all over, we need to get out there to campaign to win the chairmanship position in order to win the 2016 polls”, Mr Afoko stated.

“Investigations in the interest of Mr Afoko”

A campaign member of Mr Afoko’s team, Mr Boniface Abubakar Saddique, stated that the decision of the vetting committee to investigate Mr Afoko was “borne out of hatred”.

“Honestly speaking, what the committee did was in the interest of Mr Afoko and not against him, and we are grateful to the committee. 

“Now that Mr Afoko has been cleared, he has a clean record and if he wins the national chairmanship position, nobody can raise any allegations against him”, he stated.
