A disagreement has emerged among aspirants over the procedure for counting ballots following the close of polls at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Executive elections.
Voting officially ended at 3:15 p.m., at the WAEC Hall in Tema Community 5, where delegates from across the Greater Accra Region gathered to elect new regional executives.
Shortly after voting ended, some aspirants raised concerns about how the ballot-counting process should be conducted, resulting in differing views among contestants, election officials and other stakeholders at the venue.
While some aspirants supported proceeding with the counting under the arrangements outlined by the election officials, others expressed reservations and called for clarification on the procedure before the ballots were opened.
The disagreement created tension at the venue as election officials, party officers, members of the Election Committee and contestants engaged in discussions to resolve the concerns and agree on the appropriate procedure.
After about an hour of back-and-forth discussions, party officers, the Election Committee, Electoral Commission (EC) officials and the Police provided direction for the counting process to proceed.
The ballots were subsequently cleared for counting as the parties involved worked to resolve the concerns surrounding the process.
